The Game

Ah, I can smell it now.

Pitchers and catchers have reported to spring training in Florida and Arizona, and the horizon of a new season is being traced with the golden rays of hope for a winning season, possibly a pennant or even a World Series ring. Yes, even before we enter into Lent this year, my thoughts can turn to the Game that my grandfather always told me about and my father took me to at old Memorial Stadium. And even though the Orioles of my youth are long-gone, and the franchise has been disemboweled by the greed of the modern game, there is still something there to believe in. Even moreso than football, baseball captures the American psyche in a way that I can only describe as religious.

If you don't believe me, just listen to James Earl Jones, who speaks of the Game's significance, almost with the voice of God Himself...

It's just six weeks to Opening Day.

Batter up!
